Green Tips for the Summer

Simple, Green, Household Tips To Remember

This summer, save some energy in your apartment by remembering some of these green tips:

  1. Remember Your Microwave: Your microwave uses less than half of the energy as your stove when heating food.  Save energy and money by using your microwave to quickly heat up food and leftovers.  Interestingly, your apartment community may offer gas cooking, and that could be included in your rent.
  2. Stock The Refrigerator: The refrigerator uses less energy when fully stocked versus partially full.
  3. Adjust Your Thermostat: Setting the thermostat at an appropriate temperature can save an incredible amount of money over the summer.  Learn about temperature settings in one of our old blog posts.
  4. Choose Windows or Air Conditioning: It is a waste if you turn on the air conditioning and also open the windows of your home.  Choose one method and stick with it.
  5. Unplug Appliances: Appliances can use energy even when the appliance is not turned on and in use.  Remember to turn off appliances and unplug throughout the day.
These tips were received from the article "Summer Time Energy-Saving Tips" from Consumer Energy Center at www.consumerenergycenter.org.
