A Green Memorial Day

Eco-Friendly Tips for This Summer Holiday

Do you have plans for Memorial Day?  If you want a holiday filled with fun and activities, try to look for some green living alternatives to any event.

Find the green way to...

1) Spend Time Outside: Use Memorial Day as an opportunity to start a garden or buy a plant that will be the perfect accent to your home or apartment patio/ balcony.  If you want to grill, remember- gas and electric grills are more eco-friendly than charcoal or wood.

2) Prepare a Party: If you are hosting people over to your apartment or home on Memorial Day, keep the festivities as green as possible.  Set out recycle bins to encourage recycling of appropriate products like bottles and cans.  Try to not overbuy or overstock plates and cups, to encourage people not to waste supplies.  Similarly, do not over-prepare snacks or foods that will eventually be thrown away.

3) Deal with Waste: Do not dump garbage that you accumulate over Memorial Day.  Find appropriately marked containers and sort recyclables from garbage.  This is especially important if you are celebrating the holiday outdoors.
