Going Green: A New Year's Resolution

What's your New Year's Resolution?

2015 is only a few days away!  This year, why don't you make a resolution about going green?  Green living is not only a great personal choice, but also yields positive results for the planet as a whole.

For the new year, why don't you try these simple, green, steps:

1. Sort garbage from recyclables.

Recycling is the easiest way to go green.  Before you dump everything in your trash bin or throw things down the garbage chute, make sure that you are checking to see if any products can be recycled.  It is such an easy tip, but so many people forget!

2. Reduce your waste.

In a previous blog post, we put the amount of waste in the United States into perspective.  We throw a lot out!  In terms of products, why don'y you switch to cloth towels in your bathroom instead of paper towels?  Not only will this save you money, but it will reduce the amount of garbage that accumulates.  For food- try to never throw food away!  Eat leftovers or bring leftovers into your place of work to share.

3. Use your bicycle.

When the weather gets nicer, why don't you try biking to work?  If you don't own a bike, why don't you walk some days?  The whole idea is, only use your car when you have to!  Avoid unnecessary trips!

4. Unplug when you leave your home.

So much energy is wasted through  "energy vampires;" appliances you leave plugged in to outlets when they are not in use.  It is so simple to plug everything into a power strip, and just disconnect the strip from the wall before you leave for work.  You'll be astounded to see how much energy you save.

Have a healthy and happy 2015!
