Three Ways to Collect Strawberry Seeds

Using and Re-using Every Resource

Want to reduce food waste? Easily plant the seeds from ripe, fresh, fruits and vegetables to make the most of produce.  Follow these three methods to collect and plant the seeds from strawberries:

1) Scrape the seeds:  Use a knife, fork, or spoon to, carefully, scrape the seeds from the outside of the strawberry and place the seeds aside.

2) Pick out the seeds: Use a toothpick to get the seeds from the outside of the strawberry.

3) Blend the strawberry: Place the strawberries in a blender and blend for 10 to 20 seconds.  Strain the mixture and throw away the broken or partial seeds.  Place the un-damaged seeds aside and save for later.

Once the seeds are collected, place them in a clean ziploc bag or container and freeze them until planting.  Plant the seeds in a seed tray first and then transfer to a pot when ready.
