Thanksgiving Prep: The Green Way

Be Mindful This Thursday

Thanksgiving is only a few days away!

On Thursday, whether you are dining on a big meal or spending time with your friends and family- you can practice some eco-friendly habits.  Below are a few tips that make it possible to both enjoy Thanksgiving and maintain your green lifestyle:

1) Don't waste food

After your Thanksgiving meal, you might realized there was more food prepared or bought than necessary.  Don't waste it!  If you can't fit all of the leftovers in your fridge, ask guests to take it home.  Food waste is a a serious type of waste that can impact the environment if not disposed of correctly.  It can also save money and time to re-purpose food into leftovers.

2) Don't waste water

For cleaning purposes, water gets wasted after big, holiday meals.  Washing dishes and cleaning up requires a lot of water, but remember to turn off an idle tap and load the dishwasher in a way that does not require many multiple loads.

3) Remember to recycle

After a holiday meal, don't just throw your containers away.  Some plastic containers can be cleaned and tossed in the recycle bin.  But also, don't think you can recycle everything!  Certain items like wet paper towels, bottle caps, and Styrofoam can never be recycled!

Have a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving!
