While getting your recycling ready, it is important to note that glass products are among the trickiest to safely recycled and reuse.
The process to recycle glass includes:
- Glass needs to be carefully placed in a recycling bin or designated recycling container. Broken glass cannot be recycled and is a hazard to others.
- Recyclables are collected and glass products are separated from other materials. The glass is transported to a glass treatment plant.
- The glass products are further sorted: into color. At this stage, the glass is also washed to remove residue.
- This is when the glass is melted and crushed. In this process, the glass can be molded into other shapes to become bottles or jars.
- The re-purposed glass is ready to be used and sent away from the glass treatment plant.
