The Value of Recycling, Part II

Recycling Paper Products

Recycling is one of the easiest ways to live a green life!

Last week, the blog detailed some facts about recycling aluminum.

This week, the blog focus is on paper recycling facts!

Did you know:

  • To produce each week's Sunday edition newspapers, roughly 500 thousand trees must be chopped down.
  • The average American uses seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products made from trees. This equals roughly two billion trees used in America per year.
  • The average household throws away 13 thousand separate pieces of paper each year. Most of this garbage is from packaging material and junk mail.
  • In 1993, the United States paper recovery saved more than 90 million cubic yards of landfill space.
  • Each ton (two thousand pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, four thousand kilowatts of energy, and seven thousand gallons of water. This represents a 64 percent energy savings, a 58 percent water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!
This list was re-purposed from the article "A Recycling Revolution" at http://www.recycling-revolution.com/recycling-facts.html.
