A Green School Year

Preparing For The New School Year: The Green Way

Though many students will vehemently deny this- the start of school is just around the corner!  If you are preparing for the new school year, remember to incorporate some new-found green knowledge, such as:

1) Try to re-use: Did you buy a great backpack last year that is still in good shape?  Notebooks that you only partly used?  Save money and resources by re-using school supplies that are still in good shape instead of throwing all of your old supplies away and starting from scratch.

2) "Recycle" or donate old supplies: If you have backpacks, lunchboxes, or other school supplies that you and your family no longer wishes to keep- try to donate them if the products are still in good shape.  Many organizations are set up to donate supplies for children in need, a much better alternative for a backpack than simply throwing it away.  Try the Kids In Need Foundation by visiting their website.

3) Choose green alternatives: When buying new school supplies, try to choose notebooks and bags made out of recycled materials.  Even products like pencils have a green version!
